Treadmill Run-A Little Tired

Quick Run

Reflections On 2008

The crisp air felt good as I began my run.  It was the familiar “Video Store Loop”, which is 7 hilly miles through the streets of MLT.  The first half mile down to 7-11 isn’t bad, but after that there are some significant hills up through mile 3.  I’ve been tracking my running since 1997.  My record for this course is 52 minutes and change.  

 

Today was a long easy run, no records being broken.  It was just me and my ipod enjoying a rain-free day, which is hard to come by this time of year in Seattle. The multicolored leaves have fallen, leaving their imprints on the sidewalk signifying Thanksgiving and the Seattle marathon just around the corner.  

 

This year has been a transitional one for me.  I accomplished a long time goal of running the Boston Marathon.  My personal training business is going well in-spite of the uncertainty of our economy.  

 

I’m looking to my future and thinking about what’s next for me.  It seems like everything is changing. Work is evolving and moving in different directions. My fitness goals have taken more of a backseat lately. I’m not sure what the future will bring, but I’m excited about having a new president and I’m hopeful for the new administration. They have their work cut out for them and so do I.

Back To Running After A Nasty Cold

I was just getting into a rhythm, building my long run when I was hit with a nasty cold.  This was one of those watery eyes, burning nose kind of colds where your mascara runs down your face, even the waterproof kind.  I barely made it through the week.  I did what I had to do, went to work, came home early and fell into bed.  I slept it off finally.  This run which should’ve been easy was a test of mental and physical strength.

Thanksgiving Day Run

I went to bed early, thinking that I would get up early and go to the gym before we headed south for a 3 hour drive to Phil’s brother’s house for Thanksgiving.  I ended up sleeping in, which isn’t my normal pattern.  I am a morning person after all.  

 

We hit the freeway at about 7:45 am, which allowed us to reach our destination around 10:45 am.  We were early and the other guests wouldn’t arrive for about 1.5 hours.  Since I am a personal trainer, my brother in-law was excited to show me his new treadmill.  I was actually thinking about going for a run when we got there, as the other guests would be late.  I knew that Phil’s brother, David wouldn’t mind.  As we approached Portland, the overcast skies turned to rain.  So, I had no problem road testing his new treadmill. 

 

I logged in 5 miles.  It wasn’t easy, but since Dave boasted on running 5 miles 2-3 times per week, I figured I needed to get in the mileage.  I’m glad that I did it.  I still need more miles for the week, but I feel good about seizing the opportunity to run.  I

Run With My Dog Murphy

Murphy turned 1 on October 21st. I took him out for his first legitimate run. He started out fast and pooped out about half way through. I’m going to start running with him more so that he can hang with me for 5 miles or so.

Lake Union Run With Mitch And Shelley

It was good to get out and run with friends.  I was hoping we ran longer, but at least I burned off the Mexican food from the night before!  The other bonus is that I’m going over 800 miles for the year so far.  Maybe I can hit 900?  1,000 sounds better, but I don’t think it will happen.
