Hot Yoga
I did hot yoga with Andrea. The class was good, but I was disappointed that they raised their prices to $20 + tax for a class. That’s a bit much.

Not much mileage this week. I’ve been in class all week and wearing heels. My calves are really sore when I run.

Last run of the week. I’m struggling with mileage. I logged in 16 this week, which is not much. I think 20 is a good goal for maintaining fitness. I may do a few short races this fall and 20 miles/week would support me better.
I did a push up test on Friday with one of my clients. I did 18 standard military pushups 4 weeks ago. Friday I did 30 pushups. It took a little encouragement from the folks in the gym. My male client, who is in his 50’s did 56 pushups! Nice job. High 5’s for everyone.

Phil and I returned to Victoria after 21 years. We were there for our honeymoon in 1985 and back for our first anniversary in 1986. We took the Clipper from Seattle, which was a quick trip of about 2 - 2.5 hours. It was drizzly, with a few sun breaks. We tried to find a restaurant called the Captain’s Palace. We had gone there the last time we were in town. Captain’s Palace no longer exists, so we dined at a place called Gatsby’s, which replaced it. We toured the Buchart Gardens and did some wine tasting at The Church and State Winery. They have a nice 2006 Coyote Bowl Merlot by the way.

Normally I go out for a long run on my birthday. Today was a quick one. That’s the way life has been lately, just trying to get it all in.

Although I got a late start, I’ve been a serious runner since 1994. I ran my first marathon in 1995 on my 30th Birthday. It’s been my goal to run the Boston Marathon since then. I missed qualifying by 12 minutes that year. I needed to run 3:40 and ran 3:52. Running in the most prestigious marathon, is the ultimate for most runners. The fact that you have to qualify, only fueled my competitive juices.
Over the next 9 years I ran 6 more marathons. I love running so much that I became a personal trainer and running coach in 2001. I continued to train and came within 4 minutes of my goal in 2003, when I ran 3:49. I was seriously hoping to qualify in 2004, but it didn’t happen. I had flare ups of plantar fasciitis off and on since I began running. In 2006 I ran 5 half marathons. Apparently this was too much for my body to handle. My plantar fasciitis became acute. I had to take time off to heal. (more...) | Bike: | 429 | miles |
