I got on the treadmill, took off my sweatshirt and began to jog. When I first began running about 15 years ago, I wouldn’t consider running in just my sports bra. Now I only run in shorts and a sports bra at the gym. I am over 40 now and I know that some day I will have to cover up a little more because nature has a way of shifting things around.
Today when I took off my shirt the man next to me took a look and said “Wow, you’re in really good shape. You must be a marathoner.”
“Thanks, I’m training for the Boston Marathon.”
He was carrying 5 lb dumbells in each hand and walking on an incline. “I could never run that far.”
“You’d be surprised, Anyone can do it…just takes discipline and you’ve got that. You’re here at 6 am working out.”
I slipped my headphones in my ears and ran. I had wanted to go easy and really felt like stopping, but I felt I needed to push hard because of the man next to me. He wasn’t hitting on me. I think he admired my dedication. He kept me from slacking and I felt a little better about myself. I stood a little straighter and taller as I left the gym and wished him a good work out.
