Tasha and I went to the gym after school. Our goal is to go twice a week together. The running is supplementing her volleyball. I have to run anyway, so its good to have some mother/daughter time together. We usually go to Starbucks afterwards.

Cathy Beth, Steve and I did our 16 miler. Cathy Beth is training for her first marathon, which will be Boston. She is raising funds and I am going to run with her as her coach. I ran Boston back in 2008 and Steve ran in 2009. He is also running this year. We couldn’t have picked a more beautiful day to run. I hope we get a day like today in April. Good run everyone!

I’m going to start running with my daughter twice a week. We are doing a simple treadmill run. We start at an easy pace and jog for 2 minutes, then increase the speed for 1 minute, then increase the speed for 1 minute, then increase the speed for 1 more minute. Back to base and repeat until you’ve run 3 miles.

My back was really bothering me, so I took 2 days off. I got a massage from Joanne, which was great. Then I took a walk with Susan. This was my first run back and it was okay.

The weather was great. I knew I had to get out there and take advantage even though my back has been really bothering me for about 4 days. I got through the run and had a nice turkey sandwhich and some gatorade. I went to my office, answered some emails and headed out to the plateau to check out a property. On a lark I placed a call to Joanne to see if she had any openings for massage. Lucky me! I’m got a 2:30 appointment.

Although I got a late start, I’ve been a serious runner since 1994. I ran my first marathon in 1995 on my 30th Birthday. It’s been my goal to run the Boston Marathon since then. I missed qualifying by 12 minutes that year. I needed to run 3:40 and ran 3:52. Running in the most prestigious marathon, is the ultimate for most runners. The fact that you have to qualify, only fueled my competitive juices.
Over the next 9 years I ran 6 more marathons. I love running so much that I became a personal trainer and running coach in 2001. I continued to train and came within 4 minutes of my goal in 2003, when I ran 3:49. I was seriously hoping to qualify in 2004, but it didn’t happen. I had flare ups of plantar fasciitis off and on since I began running. In 2006 I ran 5 half marathons. Apparently this was too much for my body to handle. My plantar fasciitis became acute.
