Spin Bike At Home

I got up at 5:30 am and had appointments and errands to run.  I wasn’t done until about 3:30pm.  I decided to ride my spin bike and watch a movie called “The Saint” with Val Kilmer and Elizabeth Shue.

I had a house full of teenage girls and I was trying to decompress.  They were making brownies and jumping on the trampolene.  They kept walking by asking questions about my work out.  I trained 2 of the girls along with my daughter, Natasha, for a 5K a couple of years ago.  I explained I was training for a triathlon and needed to work on my cycling.

I ended up riding for a little over an hour, when my son Chris, came home.  He complained about all the girls making a mess in the kitchen.  It’s his job to do dishes this Summer and he wasn’t happy with the brownie mess.

Time to get off the bike and be a mom again.  It’s a busy life!  Lots of things to do and problems to solve!

Cyclist Down-Crash On The Burke Gilman

I’ve been riding since 2001 when I bought my first real bike. I don’t count the Green Schwinn Banana Seat Bicycle I had as a kid.  Everyone says sooner or later you’ll go down on your bike.  I just never thought it would happen to me.

Up until today the only time I fell on my bike was doing stupid things, when I first got it and couldn’t get the hang of clipping out. I rode up to my neighbor, Ryan to show him my new bike and couldn’t clip out because the clips were too tight. I fell right in front of him. Embarassing!

I was such a slacker this weekend, I was thinking to myself that I need to get in some good training for the Kirkland Triathlon.  Long story short, I decided to run with my daughter and then ride with Hutch in the late afternoon.  I haven’t gotten to ride with him in at least a month, so I really wanted to go.

We did a flat ride out to Redmond Towncenter, averaging about 16-17 mph. It was an easy ride because Hutch is getting ready to do the Courage Classic with Phil this weekend. On the way back we hit a headwind. I was sucking Hutch’s wheel. There are some bumps on the trail and we were trying to avoid them. I guess I was following too close.

It happened in a spit second. There was no way to avoid it. My tire hit his back tire. “Oh X*#!. Helmet bouncing on concrete, burning feeling in shoulder, elbow and shin, bent handlebars, and I am down. I shake my head from side to side and think to myself “Am I okay”? “Yes, I think, I’m okay”. I get up and Hutch asks “Lisa Sabin, are you okay”? “Yeah, I’m okay”.

Hutch checks out my bike and offers to give me a ride home. I feel a litttle shook up, but realize that I can probably make it home. I still have another 13 miles to go. We just take it easy on the way home. I can feel my shoulder burning, and I am thinking about the riders in the Tour De France, who get back on their bikes and ride with broken collar bones etc.  I can do this. It’s just an abrassion, never the less I may be sore tomorrow!

I think I’ve earned a day off!

Bike Brick Around Mercer Island

We began the bike portion of our swim/bike at Meydenbauer.  Again, I noticed the highest heart rate I have ever seen on the bike.  Maybe I am dehydrated.  It was 85 degrees according to my heart rate monitor.

I still feel like it was a good training session, inspite of lagging behind my training partners on the bike.   They were both riding strong today.  I felt stronger on the swim, which is what I am most concerned about.  The bike will come around.  I just need to get more miles in.

I have been doing my PT exercises and working on my core.  This week I added back lunges off a step and hip flexor lifts.  These are great for running and cycling.  I am definitely feeling stronger.

Spin Bike

Rode my spin bike and caught up with news of the Tour De France. Did my PT exercises and rushed off to the dentist. It was an easy work out.  I’m starting to run more and bike less.  So, it was good to do a little crosstraining.

Cardio Mix

After my swim, I got on the bike.  The seat was so big and uncomfortable, so I only spent 15 minutes. there.  I tried the new Cybex ARC Trainer and logged in 20 minutes there.  I like this peice of equipment because your feet stay fairly stable as your legs move in a circular pattern.  I was able to focus on keeping my core engaged, which was nice.  I hopped on the rowing machine for the last 5 minutes.

Cycling On The Burke-Gilman

After my run I got on my bike and rode down to the trail.  My polar heart rate monitor wasn’t working, so I had to go by the mile markers and my time.

I wore my orthodics in my cycling shoes.  I didn’t know to take out the other innersoles.  I’m glad that I was able to get them in because it made a big difference with my feet :)

Two Workouts And A Pedicure

Did some spinning in the rec room with my trusty spinning bike. Rode for an hour.

I met Donna and Michelle for lunch at the Cactus in Madison Park. I got there early and secured a great table outdoors. It was a perfect day. We have been trying to get together for about 6 weeks now. Finally, we were able to schedule our pedicures at Frenchy’s, If you ever want a casual, comfortable atmosphere to hang out with your girlfriends, Frenchy’s is the place. This is the second time I’ve gone and I think I need to go back at least once a quarter.

I soaked in hot water, had my feet scrubbed and exfolliated, then dipped in parafin wax. The hot wax feels really good! One of the best things about getting a pedicure is the calf massage. Make a note runners. Guys are doing it too. They usually skip the polish, although I did see a guy with a french pedicure in yoga class last week. He was the exception!

I got home and had to do a bunch of errands, which took all day. I dropped my daughter and 2 of her friends off at the movies. I had some time, so I decided to go for work out number two.

I did the EFX and Treadclimber for an hour and then lifted weights. I did my PT exercises. Hopefully, I made up for the lunch I had at Cactus and the junk I have been eating lately. For some reason, I haven’t been able to resist the kids pizza lately. It’s time to get back on track.

Nice Hilly Ride

Hutch and I met at Logboom and rode on the Burke-Gilman, turned and went up Norway Hill, came up and over the back side of Winery Hill to the trail.  Then, I finished with the uphill climb from Kenmore up through Brier.

What a gorgeous day!  We really lucked out because it was supposed to rain.  Instead we enjoyed a lovely 74 degree day.  There was a bit of a headwind on the way back, but all in all it was a great ride.
