This was a tough run. I never felt really good. My legs were heavy and I felt the hardness of the concrete the whole way. Debating whether to run on Saturday or push out my run until Sunday.

Got up and got in my run early today. Didn’t have to do it later in the day.

Quick run before picking up my daughter from practice. Unfortunately, I tripped and scraped my elbow. I was pretty proud of myself because I kind of did this sideways roll and ended back on my feet. I didn’t miss a step, just kept on running. I wasn’t hurt other than a small scrape and a bruise on my wrist.

Phil gave me his cold. I debated whether or not to sleep in or get up and run. I hit snooze and slept for 15 minutes and then decided to go ahead and run. I will take tomorrow off and meet my group for our last long run before the Irongirl 10K. Today’s run started at an easy pace. I felt better and picked it up for the 2nd and 3rd mile. I didn’t feel like pushing hard though.

I don’t know how I’ve been able to run at 4:30 am, but somehow I have. It’s been the only time I can get in a run. I see the same people doing the same thing every day. Every time I go to the gym I hope to get my favorite treadmill. It’s amazing, but I really like to be on the end. I guess I’m a little claustrophobic. I don’t like to be up against the wall. A guy got on the treadmill next to me for a couple of minutes and then moved to another treadmill. I ran next to him on a few days ago. Maybe he has a favorite treadmill too or maybe he didn’t want my sweat to land on him. I don’t know. There seems to be a core group of guys who know each other though. He moved over and started chatting with another guy. I didn’t take it personally. I was just glad to zone out on my favorite treadmill!

I warmed up for a couple of miles. I ran 3 miles at 7:30 pace. It’s starting to get easier. I would prefer running the 5K instead of the 10K. I haven’t run 10K in years. For some reason I tend to do 5K’s, half marathons and the occasional marathon. I’m not quite sure how to pace myself, so I’m working on speed over distance. Every week I lengthen the amount of time I’m running sub-eight, so that hopefully I will run sub-eight for the race.

Quick treadmill run. I really need to throw in some weights, but I’ve just been too busy these last couple of weeks.

Although I got a late start, I’ve been a serious runner since 1994. I ran my first marathon in 1995 on my 30th Birthday. It’s been my goal to run the Boston Marathon since then. I missed qualifying by 12 minutes that year. I needed to run 3:40 and ran 3:52. Running in the most prestigious marathon, is the ultimate for most runners. The fact that you have to qualify, only fueled my competitive juices.
Over the next 9 years I ran 6 more marathons. I love running so much that I became a personal trainer and running coach in 2001. I continued to train and came within 4 minutes of my goal in 2003, when I ran 3:49. I was seriously hoping to qualify in 2004, but it didn’t happen. I had flare ups of plantar fasciitis off and on since I began running. In 2006 I ran 5 half marathons. Apparently this was too much for my body to handle. My plantar fasciitis became acute. I had to take time off to heal. (more...) | Bike: | 429 | miles |
