Naked Bicyclists, Summer Solstice And 9 Miles…Not Necessarily In That Order

I got up this morning to run the Lake Union Loop with Michelle. She is getting ready for the Western States 100 Mile Ultra on Saturday 6/28. We started at Green Lake and ran down around the lake and back up Stone Way, which is one tough long hill. It was great to run with Michelle again. We haven’t run since before the Boston Marathon.

I got the kids up and we headed down to Freemont to experience the Summer Solstice Parade. While I am a Seattle native, I grew up on the Eastside and have never been to the Freemont Street Fair and parade. I knew that there would be people cycling naked with spray paint, but I was shocked at how many people were willing to do this. Natasha, my 14 year old turned her head and said I don’t really need to see this. Chris, my 17 year old said, Hey there’s that one guy with the flags, he’s at every Seattle event. We saw ninja turtles, the riddler, a silver man, a bunch of women with leaves on. It actually wasn’t that bad. Some of the costumes were pretty creative. I asked Natasha if she was scarred for life. She said “No, I just don’t ever need to do this again! Not necessary!”

Well, it’s part of Seattle culture. We live in a crazy town. After the parade we stopped at Tutta Bella’s for some pizza. The quatro fromagio pizza is really good. Chris and I are going to start cooking together once a week. There was a guy selling Hawaiian hammocks at the fair and we bought a late father’s day gift for Phil.

We came home, set it up and found that it was an immediate hit. Today was a gorgeous day, so it was great to sit outside in the hammock and throw the ball for Murphy. I’m hoping that Summer is finally here in Seattle. A few nice days can totally alter your mood.
