Tough Recovery

I finally was able to run today. I guess I put it all out there for the 20 miles on Saturday because I haven’t felt like doing anything other than eating and sleeping for about 2 days now. My left hip flexor is a bit angry. The old Lisa would’ve ran no matter what. The new Lisa, the one who is listening to her body, took the 2 days off and rested. I am so close to Boston now. I really have to pay attention to how I am feeling so that I can have a good race. I have a tendency to overtrain. Not this time. After Saturday, I feel like I’m ready. I don’t question whether or not I can do it. I just need to hold on to my fitness and get in one more long run.

Workout:

  • Type: Run
  • Date: 03/26/2008
  • Time: 08:30:00
  • Total Time: 00:35:50.00
  • Calories: 320
  • Distance: 4 miles
  • Average Pace: 8:57.31/mile

Good on ya, Lisa!

It’s amazing what the body will tell us if we’re willing to listen. I’m still trying to find my ears.

Smart move, Lisa. Your body will thank you on race day for a bit of rest after long miles. It takes a while to recover from those long runs! I assume since you are a professional trainer that you already take some kind of recovery drink. I swear by Endurox R4 after a long run- it really helps me feel better fast. What do you take?

I’ve tried endurox. I works pretty well. I notice that if I don”t eat something or drink something that contains carbohydrates within the first 30 minutes, I feel nauseous for a few hours after a long or intense run. Endurox or power bars seem to work for me.

good job taking a must needed rest! being overtrained on race day is worse than being undertrained…
