Hi! I was wondering if you could give me some tips for training for the Marine Corps Marathon. I’ve only ever run 18 miles at the most, and haven’t run more than 12 in about a year. I do a lot of cross training, and currently run about 5-7 miles on Monday, 8-10 on Thursday, and 10-12 on Saturdays. The other days i do the cross-training (biking, elliptical, etc.) and I lift (not heavily) three days a week. What thoughts would you have for developing a program to get me ready in time?
thanks! :)

Hi Lisa! I will be running my first half marathon in December 2009. It will be in Florida, but I am from Illinois and I go to school in NYC. So during the winter it is super cold…if i can’t run outside, would running on incline on the treadmill be okay? ( I’ll definitely be training spring through fall outside). Thanks for the help!

Hi, thanks for leaving a comment! I am running my first half marathon in May of this year, yikes! It’s in Eugene, Oregon. I have been training since January, but I have been slacking lately. Now that the race is less than 3 months away, it’s made me train more regularly. I ran 5 miles yesterday, and it felt great! My time is sloooow, (11 min miles) but my goal is just to finish!

HI Lisa
thanks for leaving a comment. I walked the portland marathon last October, a spur of the moment decision, i decided 2 weeks before the event. Afterwards i got interested in improving my time of almost 8 hrs, plenty of room for improvement there. I am thinking about signing up fo r the Eugene Half marathon, hoping to run at least part of it. Since last October i started jogging and do 4 miles every day during lunch break, slow , 11-12 min/miles. Any suggestion on improving my time and being actually able to run the whole Half Marathon? thank you.
