Morning Run

I have a full day today, so I decided to get up early and get a run in. Sometimes I’m able to run in between clients, but I really need an hour and a half to shower etc. I don’t want to cut my run short. So today that meant hitting the gym at 5am.

I have no trouble getting up early. Moving at 5am is another story. The first couple of miles were tough. I thought about only running 5 and then realized that Wednesday is busy and I wont have time to run as long. I am also thinking about my 15 mile race coming up on Saturday. I want to feel fresh. So, it made sense to get in 6 miles.

I’m a little nervous about this race. I’m kind of stuck in my head here. It’s just getting closer and closer to Boston and I don’t want anything to go wrong. I need to relax and just keep following my training plan. I think I need to get a massage too. My right hamstring felt tight this morning and my glutes are tight too.

Nice job getting up early to run. I have a hard time moving before 8:00 most days to run. Good luck at the your race Saturday.

Hello… I’m not sure if this is where I put my comment responding to your comment you left me…but it’ll work.. I’m going torun the colorado Marathon in Fort Collins. I decided to run this marathon just a couple of days ago, so I have a lot to do before I’m ready with not much time before the race… I started training today with a 3.4 mile run, which wasn’t too hard!! and I’m just going to keep running improving my times and distance!! :) good luck with your race on saturday! do you run a lot of races? have you ever done a marathon?

Hi Lisa - I’m a morning person, but running at 5 a.m.? That’s still night-time!
What’s your plan for Sunday’s race - use it as a train-through steppingstone toward Boston, or is there a particular need to push a particular time / pace?

Of course it’s a training run, but each race is like a quiz. It’s a test to see how I’m doing with my training. I hope to run faster than marathon goal pace. i.e. hopefully 8:25-8:35.

Wow Lisa! I was just reading your training blogs - you are a rock star! It sounds like you never slow down! Good luck on your race this weekend - where is it at?

Lisa: I left a little response regarding race predictions, etc over on my post.

In regards to Boston, I think you are right that you just need to have faith in your training plan. Your countdown clock says 60days, 39min and 20secs, which to me means you have time to handle even a little adversity. My take on races during a training schedule is to race them, if you are going to do them. But always give yourself the option to pull out, especially if it feels wrong and going to mess up the next several days of training.

With 15miles of racing, you would have a pretty accurate picture of your current marathon fitness.

Hey Lisa - To answer your question… I’m happy to “only” have 60 days. I know that with my minimum training plan I can run 26 miles. Every hill I run up I think will give me more confidence in Boston. Frankly, I am nervous about Sat. because I feel like it will be my gauge for whether I can hit the NYC qualifying time. Unfortunately the last 3 weeks of training have been lame but I’m using this week to get back in the grove.
I feel your pain on the early morning stuff although I actually have grown to like working out in the dark. I often think of the miles in the dark as bonus miles with the workout really starting when it gets light. Whatever it taks, eh?
I’m hitting the track tomorrow morning for another try at 800s. See, I can get religion when my back is against the wall…
See you tomorrow night!!!
