1st Swim of The Year
I always have the intention to keep up my swimming through the Winter. I don’t think I have ever actually done it though. Swimming is not my favorite thing.
Last year I hurt my shoulder when I was training for a half-ironman. I continued to have problems with my bicep tendon, and abandoned swimming distance. I did 2 sprint triathlons instead.
I discovered that my swimming technique contributed to the shoulder problem. I wasn’t slicing through the water at an angle during the reaching phase on my left side. I was kind of slapping the water and pulling through with a flat hand. This caused stress on my bicep tendon. It was really painful.
Today I swam easy. I didn’t worry about time or anything. I practiced my reach and rotation. I just wanted to get in a light work out today. I’d like to do at a sprint triathlon or two this Summer. I have participated in the Kirkland Triathlon every year since it’s inaugural race. I am so familiar with the course. It’s fun to see if I can improve each year.

Although I got a late start, I’ve been a serious runner since 1994. I ran my first marathon in 1995 on my 30th Birthday. It’s been my goal to run the Boston Marathon since then. I missed qualifying by 12 minutes that year. I needed to run 3:40 and ran 3:52. Running in the most prestigious marathon, is the ultimate for most runners. The fact that you have to qualify, only fueled my competitive juices.
Over the next 9 years I ran 6 more marathons. I love running so much that I became a
