First Ride of The Season
We put in a 35 mile ride on Saturday, all flat on the Burke-Gilman trail. I literally had to dust my bike off. I haven’t been on it since September of last year. This is embarrassing to admit, but I couldn’t even find my bike in the garage. Last Summer my brother in law did a lot of work on our house. We replaced carpets and had to move everything out to the garage. There is still a ton of junk out there!
Well, I dusted it off and went for the first ride of the season. I have a hilly 38 miler coming up next Saturday and I don’t want to go into it without any training. The trail was unbelievably crowded. There was a 5K race in Redmond and lots of walkers. There are a lot of teams who utilize the trail for group work outs.
We rode out to Marymoore Park and over to Eastlake Sammamish and back. Not a bad ride. Although I was ready to finish at the end, I felt I could’ve ridden further. I was definitely tired afterwards when we went directly to a volleyball match. It felt good to get out there again!
Although I got a late start, I’ve been a serious runner since 1994. I ran my first marathon in 1995 on my 30th Birthday. It’s been my goal to run the Boston Marathon since then. I missed qualifying by 12 minutes that year. I needed to run 3:40 and ran 3:52. Running in the most prestigious marathon, is the ultimate for most runners. The fact that you have to qualify, only fueled my competitive juices.
Over the next 9 years I ran 6 more marathons. I love running so much that I became a
