Recovery-Listening To My Body
I decided against running Bloomsday. I spoke with my coach and determined that I am not ready for a hilly, tough 12K yet. I am able to run the distance, but I wouldn’t set any land speed records. If I ran it would probably prolong my recovery from this evil, pernicious plantar fasciitis!
I am feeling better during my training runs, but I am feeling pounded and tight afterwards. I hate being injured! It’s no fun!
Here are the actions I am taking:
2 days running instead of 3 (No hard surfaces)
2 days of Yoga instead of 1
2 days of Strength Training (Regularly, sometimes I am inconsistent)
2 days of cycling or other non-impactful cardio
I did spin class twice last week and now I am a little sore. I haven’t taught spinning or taken class in about 6 months. Hopefully, I will discover a balance that will keep me fit and allow me to recover.
Although I got a late start, I’ve been a serious runner since 1994. I ran my first marathon in 1995 on my 30th Birthday. It’s been my goal to run the Boston Marathon since then. I missed qualifying by 12 minutes that year. I needed to run 3:40 and ran 3:52. Running in the most prestigious marathon, is the ultimate for most runners. HI there, I too have been suffering from this horrible pain! I am in leg braces at this time to try to heel my feet.lol I have 3 kids and the only other option is surgery. I got the braces last week and I am at wits end. I was turned on to a “miracle juice”, I got it in the mail today, and I tried it for the first time. I have no clue if it will work but, I will try anything to feel better. I am not going to advertise for this product until I find if its a scam or a true miracle. I probably wasted money, but I will try anything to feel better and be able to exercise again. I need to exercise for piece of mind! Anyway I am babbling, I would just like you to know you are not the only one out there with this pain! I hope you heel soon and are able to run. I will let you know if this juice stuff works, please let me know if you have any of your own miracles besides the shots, anti-inflamatories, braces, stretching and night splints. I have done them all. Good luck! Leanne
Thanks Leanne, It’s frustrating isn’t it! I’ve been looking into dietary changes I could make to speed up the process. Oatmeal, flaxseed, omega 3’s and 6/s supposedly help. Good luck!
